A new guidance document has been produced by the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The guide called "Natural Flood Management Measures - a practical guide for farmers" has been produced to help farmers understand better how NFM works in the farmed landscape. It was produced as a result of discussions with farmers and landowners who requested simple, clear advice on how NFM measures work and function in the farmed landscape. The guide was put together by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust and North Yorkshire County Council with support from both the Environment Agency and Natural England. It gives an overview of each approach that could be used by farmers highlighting the purpose of the measure, agricultural benefits, the method, considerations, level of maintenance, key locations where it works and cost of the intervention. It uses easy to understand schematics with pointers to additional information.
